Amy's show on Saturday!

Hey guys! So, I was going to write this days ago then decided not to but now I am. Because Laura requested that I do so. :)

As you may or may not know, Amy (Kuney) had a show in the city on Saturday, the 24th. If you were wondering, it was absolutely UNBELIEVABLE.

Hm...where to begin? Well, my friends and I went to the city at about 1-ish. We didn't really have any plans on what to do until the show so we walked around aimlessly and had TONS of fun! On our journey, we wound up going to the GIANT Toys R Us, the GIANT Disney store, the Hershey store, M&M World, and the American Girl Place (briefly)...I think there was more than that haha. It's always quite an adventure in the city...so as you can imagine, we encountered some interesting people (and some amazing gorgeous ones! <3). Our plan was to take a subway downtown to where the Living Room is, so at about 4-ish we started looking for one....and somehow didn't find one with the right train for A WHILE. We found one, got our tickets and all that crap and waited. And waited. And waited.....it didn't come. Oh, and we were supposed to be at the Living Room sometime before 5....So we got all pissed, ran back up to the street, and took a cab.

We got there at about 5:10. Amy was starting late so that was a relief. She wasn't even on when we got there; it was allll good. The guy at the door was soooo strict when it came to being under-aged haha. He marked every single hand that belonged to somebody under 21 with a giant black X (and I mean EVERY hand) and told us we "HAVE to leave right when the show is over." Damn.

After both my hands were attacked by the Sharpee, I ran (or walked quickly) to the curtain that leads to the back room and was stopped by yet another lovely employee. I paid my $5 and my hand got marked again, this time with a little green stamp that said "PAID." Ha. I was practically on the other side of the curtain while the lady was trying to stamp me.

So yeah, I said hello to Reese and Amy, took a look at the merch table, and at some point met Kate (Voegele)'s manager, Doug. Haha, yeah. Reese asked my friends and I to introduce ourselves then was like "Wait, you guys know...Doug is Kate's manager." I had a feeling!! Anyway, when Reese said that, I was like "OHHH...Hi, I'm Leah!" He knew. How wild is that? He said he recognized me from...the internet, I think? All over Kate's myspace, perhaps? He called me a Super Fan and I imagined myself wearing a cape with like, Kate's face on it or something. Haha.

THEN...I made my way through a jungle of people to the bathroom. Pretty exciting. When I came out, my friends were already sitting and I shuffled around looking for a chair to grab and at least a few cubic inches of space to put it in...It was a tad crowded. We were also sitting behind some guys who had heads slightly larger than I would prefer to be obstructing my view. Whatever.

Amy came on eventually and my friends and I cheered like wild beasts. She had a FULL BAND and it was sensational. Amy's acoustic sets are always wonderful, but with the band...it was so great! I loved how different it was than hearing just Amy's voice and the guitar or piano. The guitarist was awesome and had little solos here and there, and the whole band was just absolutely amazing. Ari Hest was on background vocals and guitar at times. He's great. The songs would get so intense and I wanted more than anything to get up and dance hahah. If I remember correctly, Amy played "Simple Things," "Bookmark," "Love Is Trippy," "Thank You For Last Night," "Rocket Surgery," "Appreciate Your Hands," and "Breaking Bad Habits," and "Would You Miss Me?" UnFREAKINGbelievable. As expected, my friends and I sang along (I think we were the only ones) like psychos and cheered a lot...I think Amy enjoyed our participation haha. At one point during "Love Is Trippy," she actually stopped singing for a second as she was looking toward us because we were singing...sort of loud I guess? Ha. We all kind of looked at each other awkwardly for a second then she was like "No, no...keep singing" then continued. That was kind of amazing!! I could NOT stop laughing after that. Too cute. :) As you probably guessed, she told her share of funny stories also and charmed the crowd like always.

After the show, I scurried over to the merch table to assume my position as "Merch Person." It was fun. Lots of people bought things and there are a couple in particular that I'd like to share.

Birthday Lady:
So, it was this lady's birthday. She was with her daughter and husband (I guess). She was quite a character and apparently (Sherine told me) she was slightly singing along when Amy sang "Thank You For Last Night" so she was automatically cool in my book. What made her even more cool is that she was questioning whether to buy three or four CDs. First she bought a bracelet and poster ($5 bracelet + poster deal!) for her daughter then was torn. She insisted on buying albums for some of her friends and wasn't sure if she should also buy one for (I'll make this up..) Betty. So, she bought three (sorry, Betty) and went on her way. A couple minutes later, I looked up and there was Birthday Lady again! She wound up buying a fourth CD (YAY BETTY)! That made me really happy. YES. :)

"Does the CD sound like THAT?" Guy:
This guy/kid/person came over to the table and asked to look at a CD. He didn't know whether to buy it or not so proceeded in asking us "Do the songs on the CD sound like THAT?" and pointed to the stage. Now, not knowing whether he liked what "THAT" sounded like, I didn't know how to answer him. Did he like how "THAT" sounded, or did he not? I stumbled on an answer and my friend Jesse asked him what he meant. He was concerned as to whether there were the guitar riffs and things during "Love is Trippy." What the heck is the difference? Haha. He kept asking questions and I just answered with "It's amazing, the whole album is amazing. Definitely worth the $15" (I thought that might sufficiently answer all his questions). Apparently it did, because I persuaded him to buy it. Yay!

Unknown Random Guy:
This one is GREAT. So some random Asian guy/kid walked through the curtain things, saw the merch table, as well as my lovely friends and I stationed beside it, and stared. Now, I didn't notice this staring but apparently he was looking back and forth from Amy's poster to me. He then remained looking at me and asked, "Are you Amy?" HAHAHAHA. I tried not to laugh in his face while I said no. I politely showed him where Amy was and he was like "Oh." So, he stood there for a good 5 minutes looking at the merch table and grabbed a postcard. He held it and stared for a couple more minutes and I suggested that he go over by Amy, say hello, and get it signed. No response. I showed him yet again where Amy was and tried convincing him yet again to go say hi. He then stared at the postcard again and asked me if the show was over. Yupp. I informed him, he continued staring at the postcard, returned it to the top of the stack on the table, and exited. SO FUNNY!!!!!! HAHAHAHA. It was kind of creepy, I'm not gonna lie.

At one point, I heard my name called, looked around, and there was Doug. He thanked me for being a Super Fan (now I'm really considering the cape thing) and said some form of goodbye. He's so awesome! I didn't really know how to respond so I hesitated when saying "Thank you?" and told him to have a great night and all that.

While my friends and I were being completely normal (I'm not being sarcastic, either. I'm rather proud of their cooperation as they were composing themselves like REAL HUMANS) and we were being Masters of Merch, the waitress who hates us (I came to that conclusion at the last Living Room show), told us in a rude way that we had to leave. Reese was across from us talking to someone, so we just chilled (partially because we didn't want to go) and waited for her to be finished so we could say goodbye. A couple more people passed and bought things, and with them was the waitress yet again. She glared at us and we pretended to be gathering up our things. On the way back out of the back room, she told us again that we really have to leave. My friend Kirsten explained to her that we were waiting to say goodbye and the lady got all bitchy to her. Ugh. Then the lady approached Reese and explained to her that we "MUST LEAVE." :| So lame.

We got our things and hung out for a couple minutes longer, helped Reese and Amy with a couple things, got a couple pictures and exchanged some hugs with Reese, and said goodbye. Amy walked us and a couple other fans out and standing in the chilly air, we talked for a while. When I was sure Amy could/should have been suffering fromsome form of frostbite or something by then (she wasn't wearing a coat and it felt like it was -6554345.00009 degrees outside), we got some pictures and sadly bid farewell. Haha. I really wish we could've hung out for longer, but it's okay. :) At one point, I contemplated whether I should stuff Amy into my "Mary Poppins" (thanks, Sherine) bag but decided against it. For the record: she'd totally fit.

I'm going to miss those girls!!

So then my friends and I walked around for a couple minutes trying to get a cab. Most of them denied us because they "couldn't fit" 5 people in the car. One guy shook his head back and forth violently then locked all his doors. Sherine was asking him; it figures. You'll be happy to know that eventually we hopped into a cab and made our way back to Times Square. We went to Burger King (that's a whole different story haha), hung around Port Authority (bus terminal) for a little while and looked around the carts of sunglasses and purses and things, got onto our buses and went home. There's more, but I don't feel like typing anymore and this blog is already ridiculously lengthy.

Fantastic day/night. Definitely should do it again. :)

Oh, and pictures are on my myspace (myspace.com/dadiisgurlxox92) and "videos" are on my youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/imposterAJ).

Great post!! You are a Super Fan!! Amy said I am a Super Fan too. That's always fun. I am sorry I missed the show but they let me stay after the show, which is the good part of being a grown-up. Ooo and I forgot to mention in my YouTube posts. Amy was concerned that I may NOT have heard her new song Bookmark so she played it for me after the show. That was awesome. Ooo and we went to McDonalds later.
